The Interclub Scratch Team representing Stanton for the away match vs Radcliffe on Trent on
Monday 23rd August 2021 was: -

Sam Horsley
Scott Hamilton
John Balchin
Tom Rowe
Tom Bagshaw

This was the final game of the and despite having already been crowned Champions of Division 4 we fielded an extremely strong team knowing that Radcliffe would put up a good fight on home soil.

Match 1: Sam Horsley v Steve Brearley
The first match got under away in perfect late summer conditions with warm sunshine and a gentle Zephier blowing. Sam up against their multiple Club Champion winner and played some of his best golf of the season which got the team away to a hard fought one-hole victory. 1 up

Match 2: Scott Hamilton v Olly Handley
Next away was the bout of the two hard hitting Southpaws Scott against the American Collegiate player Olly. Both players slugged it out for 18 rounds with Scott winning with a knockout blow in the last. 1 up.

Match 3: John Balchin v Tim Martin
John was up against the big hitting ex pro Tim Martin. John having been a Junior Member at Radcliffe knew the course well but struggled to adapt to the pace of the very slow and bobbly greens. He fought on valiantly but lost 3 and 2.

Match 4: Tom Rowe v James Leonardi
Next match was the Stanton debutant but highly experienced Tom Rowe. Tom showed an outstanding display of match-play golf and gave us a solid victory of 5 and 4.

Match 5: Tom Bagshaw v Mike Dean
The final game was Tom Bagshaw against the big hitting Mike Dean. Despite Tom outplaying his opponent tee to green with a magnificent display of ball striking Tom also had difficulty on Radcliffe’s poor putting surfaces and went down with a gallant 2 and 1 defeat.

The victory was celebrated with a meal of home-made steak pie followed by apple crumble.

All in all, this was great Stanton team effort with a 3 to 2 away victory. As well as sealing our promotion to Division 3 it also meant that we had played the Season without losing one fixture.

The future looks bright for Stanton we have a really strong and deep squad of players accompanied by good comradery and sportsmanship. Including the interclub knock outs, we have used 11 different players and we still have plenty more left in the locker.

Thank you to all of the support that we have received from the Stanton Members at both home and away matches, seeing a few friendly faces certainly makes the lads concentrate just that little bit more.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the 2022 Season.
